How I Developed My Website and Secured a Client in Just One Day

Chapter 1: The Challenge of Building a Personal Brand
Starting a personal brand can often feel overwhelming. Despite having valuable knowledge to share, how do you actually engage an audience? The ultimate goal is to turn that expertise into a source of income. Just a month ago, I found myself at this crossroads, eager to advance but unsure of how to proceed.
Then the idea struck me: why not create a website?
This online platform could serve as a showcase for my skills, allowing me to educate others while also attracting potential clients.
Wix to the Rescue
I had dabbled with WordPress in the past, mainly for blogging projects. However, I had heard that Wix was renowned for its user-friendliness. Additionally, it was touted as being more budget-friendly than WordPress, which was a significant factor for me. So, I decided to give it a try.
And let me tell you, the buzz was justified!
Wix is remarkably easy to navigate. It offers templates for those who need a jumpstart, a plethora of design options, and an App Market for adding various functionalities. This platform felt far less daunting than WordPress, which really boosted my confidence as I took on the task of building my website.
Building a Professional Presence
My website's purpose wasn't to showcase adorable cat pictures (though those are great too!). It needed to serve a professional function. This meant I had two primary objectives:
- Impressive Portfolio: I required a space to highlight my skills effectively. The design had to be clean, user-friendly, and packed with my best work to captivate potential clients.
- Blog for Engagement: I incorporated a blog to organically attract traffic. By sharing articles, tutorials, and insights, I aimed to provide value to my audience and encourage them to consider hiring me.
To be honest, it took me about a week to get everything just right.
Client Alert!
Now comes the exciting part.
After clicking the publish button on my website, I planned to focus on promotion later. But just three hours later, I received an email notification: someone discovered my site, appreciated my work, and wanted to discuss a business opportunity.
This was a significant project involving the repurposing of a lot of content (I can’t disclose too much about the client, as they’re also in the Medium space!).
The Secret Ingredient: SEO
Was this just a fluke? Absolutely not!
The reason my site gained traction so quickly was due to effective SEO—Search Engine Optimization. I dedicated an entire day to optimizing each page to catch Google’s attention. Utilizing free tools and following YouTube tutorials made a substantial difference!
