Embracing "Business as Unusual": Transformative Times Ahead

Chapter 1: A Call for Transformation
As we near the two-year mark since the pandemic's onset, it’s crucial to evaluate the transformations that have taken place — if any. You might be skeptical of the phrase "if any" when it comes to change. It sounds almost absurd, doesn't it? However, I assure you, it’s a valid question.
Real change is contingent upon our own actions. The notion of reverting to "normal" or "business as usual" has been widely recognized as a misconception. The definition of “normal” can vary, but for this discussion, let’s define it as the pre-pandemic status quo.
Reflecting on the period before March 2020, we were already grappling with health crises and social upheaval. Romanticizing the past seems not only misguided but also dangerously simplistic.
The global crisis we faced was a necessary wake-up call, a signal that change was essential. Historically, pandemics have occurred, yet modern technology allowed us to witness and communicate about this one collectively, making it unique in its global reach.
One interpretation is that the universe aimed to inspire us to embrace change instead of reverting to the patterns that led us to this crisis. It has been said that “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results.” Yet, I argue that what might be better described as ignorance or wishful thinking.
Andy Warhol wisely noted, “They always say time changes things, but actually you have to change them yourself.” We cannot control external circumstances, but we do have power over our thoughts and actions.
Given that the pandemic served as a catalyst for universal change, we should consider:
- How have I personally evolved since March 2020?
- What proactive steps am I taking to manage how circumstances influence me?
For instance, in the early days of the pandemic, there was a surge of interest in natural immunity boosters. With no immediate medical solutions available, many turned to vitamins and home remedies. The demand for Vitamins C and D skyrocketed, and elderberry syrup became a household staple. Suddenly, nutrition was at the forefront of our health conversations.
Yet, today, that focus seems to have diminished. Observing my social media feeds and news outlets, there appears to be a lack of emphasis on maintaining good health as a means of building immunity. Instead, health discussions are often overshadowed by conventional scientific methods, neglecting our natural biology's role in wellness.
I’m curious: did you make any lifestyle or dietary changes to enhance your health during the pandemic? Consider these questions:
- Did you favor fresh foods over processed items?
- How did your protein intake change?
- What were your exercise habits like?
- Did you prioritize outdoor activities?
- How did your sleep patterns shift?
- Did you adjust your hydration habits?
- What about your vitamin or supplement routine?
- How did your social interactions change?
- What steps did you take to safeguard your mental well-being?
These are just a few areas of potential change. I genuinely want to hear about your experiences.
Here’s what I’ve done:
Before March 2020:
- I maintained a largely vegan diet and prioritized whole, organic foods.
- For immunity, I began my day with what I call “Ginger Immun-i-Tea” (recipe at the end).
- My exercise routine focused on weight-bearing activities for bone health.
- My sleep quality was inconsistent, and I practiced meditation sporadically.
- I took daily supplements, including Vitamin C and D.
Post-March 2020 Changes:
- I added zinc to my regimen and increased my Vitamin C intake.
- I focused more on stretching and yoga.
- I incorporated daily walks and joined the North Carolina Arboretum.
- I established a regular meditation practice.
- I minimized my media exposure.
I recently invested in Earthing™ mats to enhance my grounding practices, which have notably improved my sleep quality.
I'm not suggesting that everyone should adopt my practices. I’m more interested in learning what works for you in maintaining health, building immunity, and resisting illness.
It’s clear that the issues present before the pandemic persist. Despite my limited media engagement, it’s apparent that little has changed regarding these challenges. There’s much talk, but not enough action.
So, I invite you to share your reflections and actions regarding these topics in the comments below. If you’d prefer privacy, feel free to reach out to me directly.
I hope you are finding good health in both body and mind. For those interested, here’s the recipe for my immunity elixir:
Ginger Immun-i-Tea:
- 1/2 inch of organic ginger, peeled and minced
- Juice of at least 1/4 organic lemon
- Boiling water
Optional Additions:
- Cayenne pepper (for congestion)
- Local honey (to taste)
Pour boiling water over the ginger in a mug and cover it loosely. Let it steep for 10–15 minutes. Add lemon juice after the water cools to preserve the enzymes. You can strain the tea if you prefer not to have ginger bits.
Cheers to your health!
