After passing the Civil Service Examination in Physics in 1969, he taught in Cameroon from 1971 to 1974. Currently, he serves as a senior scientist at the Laboratoire Charles Fabry de l’Institut d’Optique and holds a professorship at École Polytechnique.

John F. Clauser obtained his Bachelor's degree in Physics from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in 1964. He pursued further studies at Columbia University, earning his Master's degree in 1966 and his Ph.D. in 1969. In the 1980s, he worked as a senior scientist at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) and later joined the Physics Department at the University of California, Berkeley in 1990. Since 1997, he has been self-employed, working as a private consultant.
